'Miss Ginger's Christmas cactus' set of four greeting cards
Miss Ginger has her own way of doing things and takes a lot of pride in being independent. She even enjoys the thought that perhaps her neighbors talk about how “unusual” or “odd” she is… perhaps that's why she keeps her chickens in the house as pets instead of in the run-down old coop behind the garden.. and perhaps that's why she never sends cards at Christmas but sends out old fashioned cards featuring cherubic cupids and almost-forgotten kinds of Victorian flowers at Valentine's Day instead -- some think it's because Miss Ginger never received a valentine herself but that isn't true - she's had many over the years and she keeps them in boxes covered in the the most splendid scraps of old wallpapers she's found in the backs of closets in her many-roomed old house and those boxes are kept in a closet under the creaking stairs beside the Christmas cactus which she brings out in November to begin its great show and puts away again after Valentine's, to wait in the dusty darkness where it waits to be brought out into the light for its season of beauty and blooming.
